About.

Make it simple, but significant.

I am a visual and interactive specialist with a decade worth of experience working as a designer across digital, print and web design.
As a tertiary qualified designer, I have worked in senior positions within the Queensland Government where I am currently a graphic designer for the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME).

Through my freelance work, I have been fortunate to work on national and international campaign-based projects for some of Australia’s largest organisations including the National Indigenous Research and Knowledge Network (NIRAKN), Indigenous Studies Research Network (ISRN), Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australian Research Council (ARC), RMIT University, University of Hawaii (UoH), Tower Insurance (TAL) Pty. Ltd., Native American and Indigenous Studies Association (NAISA) and Media Super, to name just a few 🙂

My roles have seen me coding website content, designing corporate branding and editing video, photo and audio, with staff management, social media publishing integral components of my job.

My time in the industry has seen me network with voice over artists, photographers, web developers and other experts in their respective fields – connections helpful for any future roles.

My work in WordPress development has also made me highly proficient in digital publishing content management platforms, with an expansive skill set in working with subject-matter-experts to produce website content.

As one of the few designers with expansive knowledge across all mediums, I know how to scale a brand from the ground up and deliver high-quality marketing collateral capable of reaching national audiences using multiple channels.

GREAT DESIGN MATTERS.

“The public is more familiar with bad design than good design. It is, in effect, conditioned to prefer bad design, because that is what it lives with. The new becomes threatening, the old reassuring.”
— Paul Rand, graphic designer
01. DIGITAL.

Through the application of creativity and computer skills I design visuals associated with electronic technology. I create graphics associated with anything in the digital landscape from websites and mobile user interfaces to applying special effects to movie clips. My work has been utilised across a variety of industries, including media, education, and government.

02. PRINT.

A subset of graphic design, my experience in print design is extensive and has seen me working with some of Brisbane’s largest offset and digital printing companies. My work has been used at large scale conferences and expos to convey information to target audiences through intentional aesthetic design printed on tangible surfaces, this includes ceiling-hung vinyl banners, polypropylene poster display booths and other high-quality promotional products.

03. WEB.

I started learning about web technologies in 2001 (XHTML & HTML4). Since that time, I have completed a bachelor degree in visual and interactive design (QUT) and my two decades worth of experience encompasses several different aspects working with back-end server technology, and front-end web development languages (HTML5, CSS3 & JavaScript) to design web page layouts, implement content management systems (WordPress), and integrate eCommerce technologies.

RESULTS DRIVEN DESIGN.

A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

THE USER MUST COME FIRST.

A product is only ever as good as its User Experience (UX). You can have the most innovative technology, but if it isn’t user-friendly, it will struggle to reach mainstream adoption. Products like the iPod and the iPhone would never have become so popular based on the technology alone; what really sealed the deal is the fact that they have great UX. The latest wave of technologies like AR, VR, voice and bitcoin have the potential to disrupt the market — but the challenge lies in making them usable for the masses. This is where technology and UX go hand in hand, and the former is nothing without the latter.
